Binsar forest sanctuary near Almora, renowned for its lush green forest and diverse wildlife, may soon offer the options of jungle safari and bike riding to tourists. Officials of the forest department said they have proposed a Rs 12 crore initiative to introduce these facilities in the sanctuary, akin to the Corbett Tiger Reserve.
Currently, visitors to Binsar sanctuary explore the forest on foot.
According to the forest department, the proposal is expected to receive government approval within the next three months.
“For the first time, a safari has been proposed in Binsar sanctuary. Bike riding will start in Kasardevi Eco Park. After the implementation of both schemes, the tourism activities here will gain momentum,” said Deepak Singh, the divisional forest officer.
“Every year, thousands of tourists, from India and abroad, come to visit the sanctuary. Presently, it is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, leopards, chital, monal, musk deer, bears and wild boars,” Singh added.
