GUWAHATI: A bullet-riddled body, yet to be identified, was found by the roadside at Sekmaijin Maning in Manipur’s Kakching district on Monday, the second such casualty in as many days after the death of a Zeliangrong Naga militant in a gunfight with a rival outfit at Tupul village in Noney district.
The Noney clash on Sunday started with two members of the Zeliangrong United Front being attacked by armed men from another Naga group, sources said. While one died in the firing, the other was wounded. The deceased cadre has been identified as David Gaingamlung Gonmei.
Zeliangrong United Front has been in a ceasefire with the Centre and the Manipur government since last year. The outfit professes to be fighting for a separate state for the Zeliangrong Naga tribe.
At Khoirom in Thoubal district, a joint team of Manipur police and other state forces confiscated an SLR, seven magazines, an anti-riot gun and a hand grenade during raids to recover weapons from miscreants.
