The panel is probing allegations against that Mahua provided her Parliament credentials to businessman businessman Darshan Hiranandani in order to directly post questions about Adani group.The allegations were levelled against her by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. He told the ethics committee on Thursday that it was an ‘open and shut’ case.
“I am already committed to attending numerous pre-scheduled Vijaya Dashami sammelans/meetings (both government and political) in my constituency from October 30-November 4, 2023. I cannot be in Delhi on October 31,” she wrote in the letter addressed to the chairperson of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee.
Mahua represents Krishnanagar constituency of West Bengal.
The TMC MP requested the Lok Sabha ethics panel to give her any date after November 5 to appear in person.
“I request to be given time to appear in person before the committee at any date and time of the committee’s choice after November 5, 2023,” Mahua wrote.
Last week, Hiranandani admitted that he had used Mahua Moitra’s parliamentary login credentials to question the Modi government about industrialist Gautam Adani.
The ethics committee is headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar and includes Vishnu Datt Sharma, Sumedhanand Saraswati, Aparajita Sarangi, Rajdeep Roy, Sunita Duggal and Subhash Bhamre of BJP; Ve Vaithilingam, N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Preneet Kaur of Congress; Balashowry Vallabbhaneni (YSRCP); Hemant Godse (Shiv Sena); Giridhari Yadav (JDU); PR Natarajan (CPM); and Kunwar Danish Ali (BSP).
