NEW DELHI: The CBI has filed achargesheet against two retired Major Generals, M V Bhat and K R M K Babaji Rao, and two others for alleged corruption in the recruitment of candidates to Survey of India by manipulating their marks in the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination, reports Rajshekhar Jha. The exam was held in October 2002. Bhat was the then director of the Survey Training Institute (STI), Hyderabad and Rao was the then deputy surveyor general, officials said.

“It was alleged that the vigilance unit of the Department of Science and Technology had been in receipt of complaints from the employees of Survey of India regarding malpractices in compilation of marks in answer sheets in connection with Limited Departmental Competitive Examination held in October 2002 in the Survey of India,” the FIR claimed. As a result of this manipulation, it was alleged, the candidates who had apparently passed were made to fail and vice versa on large scale. This allegedly resulted in the wrong selection of 44 candidates.CBI’s anti-corruption unit had filed an FIR in 2020 and the chargesheet was filed last week, sources said.
The inquiry revealed that the exam was conducted for 208 vacancies which were later reduced to 74.
