NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka‘s Angelo Mathews created an unwanted record on Monday as he became the first player to be given out in a rare ‘timed out‘ dismissal during the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka ODI World Cup match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Mathews failed to reach the crease within the stipulated time of two minutes. As per the MCC laws, a batsman is required to be prepared to face the next ball within three minutes of a dismissal. However, in the specific playing conditions outlined for the ICCWorld Cup 2023, the time limit for the incoming batsman is just two minutes.
As soon as the bizarre dismissal happened, former cricketers and experts reacted strongly on social media platform ‘X’, formerly Twitter, coming out in full support of Mathews.
