The Discovery Station is a personalised radio station that plays a continuous stream of songs based on your listening history and preferences. It is similar to Spotify’s “Discover Weekly” playlist, but it offers a more dynamic experience with new songs being added all the time.
Apple Music already automatically creates a station based on your name. This typically has songs curated from your saved playlists or songs that you often listen to. Discovery Station is different from that. It is personalized to each individual user, based on their listening history and preferences. Further, it plays a continuous stream of new songs, with new songs being added all the time. We did try the Discovery Station but the songs were often repeated and the artists selection was much more diverse. You can thumbs up or thumbs down songs to help Apple improve its recommendations.
How to find Discovery Station on Apple Music?
To create your Discovery Station, simply open the Apple Music app and tap on the “Listen Now” tab. Then, scroll down to the “Stations for You” section and tap on “Discovery Station.” The station will start playing immediately, and you can thumbs up or thumbs down songs to help Apple improve its recommendations.
Discovery Station relies on machine learning and algorithms to pick songs that you may like. Apple Music does lean on machine learning quite a bit to cater to users’ music tastes.
Discovery Station is available on the Apple Music app on iOS and Mac. We aren’t sure if it has rolled out on the Android app as well but it is likely to come.
