After being presented as Pakistani in the post match show along with former Australian cricketers Shane Watson and Aaron Finch, Waqar quickly reminded the panel of his Aussie connection.
“I’m a half Aussie, don’t just call me a Pakistani,” he said on Star Sports.
Waqar got married to Faryal, a doctor who hails from a Pakistani-Australian background. The couple has three kids and their residence is located in the town of Castle Hill, situated in the New South Wales region of Australia.
Pakistan suffered 62-run defeat against Australia after they were bowled out for 305 in 45.3 overs, leaving both teams on two wins and as many losses.
Openers David Warner (163) and Mitchell Marsh (108) struck blazing centuries and forged a 259-run stand as Australia posted a mammoth 367 for 9.
In response, Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafique (64) and Imam-ul-Haq (70) laid the platform for the chase with a 134-run opening partnership but the rest of the top order failed to build on promising starts.
