CHENNAI: Former Union finance minister P Chidambaram on Saturday said electoral bonds are legalised bribery and the ruling BJP is going to be the biggest beneficiary of them.
The Union government announced that the 28th tranche of electoral bonds would be open on October 4, ahead of the state assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram.
Taking to X, Chidambaram said electoral bonds would be “a golden harvest for the BJP.”
Recalling the previous data, Chidambaram said, “90% of the so-called anonymous donations will go to the BJP. The crony capitalists will open their cheque books to write out their ‘tribute’ to the lord and master in Delhi.”
According to the Association of Democratic Rights (ADR) report released in July, the total donation received by the political parties in India through electoral bonds between 2016-17 and 2021-22 is Rs 9,188.35 crore out of which the BJP’s share was Rs 5,271.9751 crore.
