NEW DELHI: Lounge users may not have a harrowing time at Delhi Airport’s terminal 3 (T3) where long queues and seat shortage had been a common issue for the past few months due to a crippling shortage of lounges. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) says it has introduced “Encalm Privé” business class lounge at T3. “The (new) lounge currently spans out at 22,000 square feet and once fully operational, it will (be spread over) 30,000 sq. ft., making it the biggest lounge facility in India. With this addition, two separate lounge facilities will be available for passengers: Encalm Privé exclusively for business class and first-class travellers of partner airlines. (For) credit card users (lounge) at the food court level of T3, International, after security hold area,” DIAL said in a statement. Its Sm feed describes the new facility as Asia’s airport largest.
DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said: “DIAL is committed to enhancing passenger experience at Delhi Airport. With this new lounge, Delhi Airport has significantly enhanced its lounge capacity and the quality of services and facilities. This world class lounge facility aims to provide a premium travel experience.” A confrontation had been brewing between airlines and DIAL over lounge issue at DIAL. While T3 had a number of international airline lounges, the same were closed during Covid. Once international travel resumed early last year, T3 faced a lounge shortage as there were only two lounges — Air India lounge that struggled to meet with the fast-expanding Tata Group airline’s own requirement for premium passengers. And Encalm lounge for eligible credit card holders where long queues at peak flight departure times are common.
Now with the new lounge, hopefully things will improve at T3. DIAL says the new lounge in coming days will have a spa and fitness centre; sleeping pods and nap rooms; a cigar room, a gaming zone; express laundry and shower facilities. Facilities already available at the new lounge include lounge bays; bar; multi-cuisine buffet; live food counters; kids’ play area’ library and a business centre.
