MEERUT: An 11-year-old boy died in a blast while attempting to dismantle explosive material acquired from an army firing range in Saharanpur’s Mirzapur area on Wednesday morning.
This marks the second such fatality in two weeks. The incident took place on a farm in Shahpur Gadha village, and the boy, Hanif Ahmad, lost his life on the spot.
“The child somehow acquired the explosive material from a defence firing range 2km away.He belongs to a family of Van Gujjars who shepherd cattle in the grasslands. Possibly, the explosive was discarded and meant for disposal, and he was attempting to extract metal from it. Our forensic team has found some splinters at the site,” said SP (rural) Sagar Jain.
