MEERUT: Five devotees were electrocuted and several others injured after a truck carrying kanwariyas touched a high-tension line in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Saturday night.
The incident took place in Bhawanpur when a group of 16 kanwariyas were returning from Haridwar to their village, Rali Chauhan.
“Ten kanwariyas were admitted to the hospital. Of them, five died during treatment. Investigations are under way,” Meerut DM Deepak Meena said.
According to an eyewitness, Ram Ratan Saini, the high-tension line touched the kanwar which was at a considerable height and the current flowed into the truck.
