RAIPUR: Asserting that the poor are the largest caste for him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, which was set to expire in December, for a period of five years to benefit 80 crore underprivileged families in the country.
Addressing an election rally in Durg in support of the party’s candidates for the division on Saturday, he criticized the Congress party for promoting casteism in the country, apparently referring to the Congress’s demand for a caste-based census.
The Prime Minister described the ‘Sankalp Patr’ (election manifesto), released by Union home minister Amit Shah in Raipur on Friday ahead of the assembly elections in the state, as a commitment to fulfilling the dreams of farmers, youth, and women. Endorsing the BJP’s slogan ‘BJP ne Banaya Hai, BJP hi Sanwaregi,’ (we have built Chhattisgarh, and we will nurture it), the Prime Minister stated that the BJP can lead the state on the path of development.
The Prime Minister further noted that the Congress has emotionally manipulated the poor in the country for votes. The slogan ‘Garibi Hatao,’ given by the Congress, was used to exploit the poor’s emotions for votes.
“When the BJP formed the government at the Centre, Modi’s top priority was poverty alleviation. We introduced the ‘Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana’ to alleviate poverty, successfully lifting 13.5 crore people out of poverty. For us, the poor are the largest group. This has made many political parties uncomfortable. They wonder how the poor can be friends with Modi, and thus they have started a new game – the game of casteism,” the Prime Minister said while addressing an election rally in support of the party’s candidates in the Durg division.
Central government schemes were not implemented by the Chhattisgarh government over the last five years. The poor were denied houses, and more than 100 Jan Aushadhi Kendras were shut down by their government.
The people of Chhattisgarh will breathe a sigh of relief from Congress’ oppression after 30 days when the vote count takes place on December 3, the Prime Minister said.
“I guarantee that once the BJP forms the government, lakhs of families in Chhattisgarh will receive proper housing in no time. I also guarantee to the women and sisters of Chhattisgarh that all the promises in the manifesto for them will be fulfilled,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that the Congress has insulted the Sahu Samaj by calling them thieves. Without naming names, the Prime Minister said that a Congress leader in Chhattisgarh had insulted the Sahu Samaj. Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s insult to Sahu Samaj, the Prime Minister noted that the Supreme Court has not yet provided relief.
The Prime Minister stated that the next 25 years are crucial for Chhattisgarh’s development, especially for industrial expansion. No industrial expansion has occurred in Chhattisgarh under Congress rule, the Prime Minister added. The BJP promises industrial development in its manifesto, which will create employment opportunities.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the central government has provided over Rs one lakh crore to Chhattisgarh farmers and has procured every single crop of paddy. He also criticized the Congress for deteriorating law and order in the state, promising that the BJP would establish law and order.
The Prime Minister raised the issue of the killings of Malkat Singh in Durg and Bhuneshwar Sahu in Biranpur and questioned the Congress government about their responsibility.
The Prime Minister concluded his speech by urging the audience to convey his greetings to the elders in their homes.
BJP National vice president and former chief minister Raman Singh, Party State president Arun Sao, Durg MP Vijay Baghel, Rajnandgaon MP Santosh Pandey, and Rajya Sabha MP Saroj Pandey also addressed the gathering.
