Gemini: Google Gemini: Company’s AI chatbot Bard gets its ‘biggest upgrade’ yet

Google announced Gemini, its “largest and most capable AI model” that will power its services and devices. Gemini is launched in three sizes: Ultra, Pro and Nano. Nano is the smallest model and will power Google Assistant Google Pixel 8 Pro, and the Pro model will ‘supercharge’ the company’s AI chatbot Bard.
Gemini to rollout in Bard in two phases
Google announced that Gemini will be rolling out to Bard in two phases.The AI chatbot will be powered by a specifically tuned version ofGemini Pro in English for more advanced reasoning, planning, understanding and more.
“We’ve specifically tuned Gemini Pro in Bard to be far more capable at things like understanding, summarising, reasoning, coding and planning. And we’re seeing great results: In blind evaluations with our third-party raters, Bard is now the most preferred free chatbot compared to leading alternatives,” said Sissie Hsiao, vice president and general manager, Google Assistant and Bard.

Users can try out Bard with Gemini Pro for text-based prompts, with support for other modalities coming soon. It will be available in English in more than 170 countries, including in India.
Gemini Pro ‘beats’ GPT-3.5
Google says that it ran Gemini Pro through a number of industry-standard benchmarks, and in six out of eight of them, Gemini Pro outperformed GPT-3.5, including in MMLU (Massive Multitask Language Understanding), one of the key leading standards for measuring large AI models, and GSM8K, which measures grade school math reasoning.
Bard Advanced with Gemini Ultra
In the second phase, Google will introduce Bard Advanced powered by Gemini Ultra. This AI chatbot will enable users to access the company’s “most advanced models and capabilities” starting early next year.
“Gemini Ultra is our largest and most capable model, designed for highly complex tasks and built to quickly understand and act on different types of information — including text, images, audio, video and code,” Hsiao added.
The company also shared two tables benchmarking Gemini Ultra and GPT-4.
