Google Messages App: Google updates Messages app to support Ultra HDR format

[ad_1]

Google keeps updating its Messages app to offer a better user experience as well as bring it up to the speed of other instant messaging apps available on Android. For some, the company releases an official press note, while some get added rather silently. The recent update belongs to the latter one.
Recently, the Google Messages apphas gained support for Ultra HDR image format. This means users can now share Ultra HDR photos via the RCS-enabledGoogle Messages app. Also, images sent via the Messages app will retain metadata and will also display the correct colours and details in the receiver’s device.
TheSpAndroid was the first to notice this change within the Google Messages app. Also, the app now gets a new flag called bugle.support_ultra_hdr within the latest version’s apk file.
What is Ultra HDR format?
Google has recently introduced this new Ultra HDR format with Android 14 operating system. The format is basically an improved version of JPEG format. These images usually offer better dynamic range and have HDR data incorporated into them through the metadata provided the device has an HDR display. On non-HDR devices, it displays as a JPEG image.
Google rolled out the Ultra HDR support to recently announced Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. Also, the format is integrated into Android 14 operating system. But, the adoption rate with other OEMs is rather slow for this format.
Despite all that, If you happen to have an Ultra HDR image and use Google Message as your daily driver for the messaging app, the latest version now supports it and you can now share such images without any worries.
