Google Pixel’s Car Crash Detection now available in India, here’s how to turn it on

You must know about the iPhone’s Car Crash Detection feature. But do you know that Google was the first to introduce the feature in its phones? In 2019, Google baked in Car Crash Detection in the Pixel3, and the feature has been available on every Pixel phone since then. However, the feature remained limited to select regions and languages; now it is expanding to more countries, including India.

Google has quietly updated a support page for Car Crash Detection to announce that the feature is now supported in five new countries, taking the total number of supported countries to 20. The newly supported countries are Austria, Belgium, India, Portugal and Switzerland. However, the feature does not support Hindi yet.
The Car Crash Detection feature can be found in the Safety app on Google Pixel phones.
How to turn on Car Crash Detection on Pixel phones
To activate the car crash detection feature on your phone’s Personal Safety app, follow these steps:
Car Crash Detection is available on Pixel 4a and later. Do note that the phone must have an active SIM card.

If you are ever in a severe car crash, your phone can automatically call emergency services such as 121 in India and share your location.
How does Google Pixel’s Car Crash Detection work
Google’s Pixel phones use location, motion sensors, and nearby sounds to detect car crashes. If a crash is detected, your phone can call emergency services using Android’s Emergency Location Service. However, this feature may not detect all crashes, and high-impact activities can trigger it. Additionally, your phone may not be able to call emergency services in certain situations, such as when it is connected to a weak network or you are on a call.
