MUMBAI: Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Intelligence Officer Ashish Ranjan Prasad, an accused in the CBI’s case against officials in the Cordelia drug scam probe, reportedly told CBI that the controversial witness–Kiran Gosavi–was roped in after approval of the then NCB zonal chief Sameer Wankhede. Ashish was part of the investigation team
The CBI declined to comment on the development.
Recently, CBI recorded Ashish’s statement in the case. The CBI had also examined Gosavi and one Viral Rajan from whom Wankhede had allegedly purchased an expensive watch in the case.
CBI us investigating a case of corruption and extortion against Wankhede, Ashish, dismissed superintendent Vishwa Vijay Singh, two private persons Kiran Gosavi and Sanvile D’Souza also known as Sam D’Souza for allegedly collecting Rs 50 lakh of the total demand of Rs 25 cr from actor Shah Rukh Khan in the October 2021 Cordelia drug case involving his son Aryan Khan.
It is learnt that in his statement to the CBI, Ashish told them that during the detention of suspects from the cruise terminal, he had inquired about Gosavi, Prabhakar Sail and another witnesses Manish Bhanushali, a BJP worker. They reportedly told Ashish that they were at the spot on instruction of Wankhede. Ashish reportedly told the CBI in his statement that he verified their claim with Wankhede who said that they were known to him. Earlier Wankhede had claimed that he came to know about Gosavi, Sail and Bhanushali on the day of the drug bust case.
It was alleged that in the internal enquiry, the NCB found the series of lapses, one after the other, in the custody of Aryan is proof of the fact that it was compromised in an intentional manner to give an opportunity to Kiran Gosavi. The NCB later dropped the case against Aryan. The audio recording of Aryan circulated by Gosavi is again a procedural lapse. A selfie of Gosavi along with Aryan, hours after the cruiseliner raid, had gone viral.
The CCTV equipment of the NCB office was collected by the Special Enquiry Team (SET) of NCB to verify the facts of cruise drug bust case. However it was found that the same has gone corrupt. The DVR and the hard disc provided by the office of NCB Mumbai were different.
