Chinese smartphone maker Honor has teased a new smartphone during the ongoing Qualcomm Summit. The Honor Magic 6 will come powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and is rumoured to launch by the end of 2023. The latest chipset will enable Magic 6 users to access generative AIeven when they are offline. This is the same technology that powers generative AI platforms like ChatGPT and will also allow users to access more features built around personalisation.
Honor Magic 6 Phone: What to expect
Honor has confirmed that Magic 6’s LLM will be different from cloud-based LLMs which are trained on publicly accessible datasets. The Magic 6 “draws from its understanding of the device’s user to provide personalised services according to their preferences,” the company noted.
At the Qualcomm event, Honor also showcased some of the AI capabilities that will be available on the Magic 6. The phone will have a dedicated virtual assistant named Yoyo who will be able to create short videos featuring photos and footage stored on the phone.
The company has also teased a new feature called Magic Capsule on Magic 6 which resembles Apple’s Dynamic Island on the iPhone. However, the feature on the Honor phone will also support eye-tracking. The company has also shared a short demo YouTube video of the Magic Capsule on social media platform X. The demo video shows a woman holding the Magic 6 and selecting the Magic Capsule by looking at it.

Smartphones with AI features
Apart from Honor, multiple other brands like Xiaomi, Oppo and Oneplus are set to launch their flagship phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. However, to integrate AI features into their phones, these companies need to work with Qualcomm. These flagship models won’t natively support any AI features.
Earlier this month, Google launched the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. Both models are equipped with multiple AI features that can be used to improve photos, answer phone calls and even create custom wallpapers.
