Foldable phones have started to get a bit common but foldable laptops are still niche. Yet, HP has launched a rather unique foldable laptop. Instead of being the usual ‘2-in-1’ device, the HP Spectre Fold is a 3-in-1 device — a tablet, a laptop, and a desktop rolled in one.
The HP Spectre Fold turns into a compact 12.2-inch laptop. Further, it has an expanded mode which is like a one-and-a-half screen option or extended mode for dual screen functionality. The folding mechanism seems sturdy and the transition between modes is done rather well.
When completely unfolded, it can be held and used as a tablet with one hand. The display is quite large and provides an immersive viewing experience.
There’s a built-in kickstand and detachable keyboard, which turns the device into a desktop.
The Spectre Fold, according to HP, is the world’s first foldable PC with built-in AI for security, wellness, and gesture controls.
Key specifications, price and availability
The device comes powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 Processor engineered on the Intel Evo platform. There’s Intel® Iris Xe Graphics as well. HP claims that the device offers long-lasting battery life of up to 12 hours in laptop mode and up to 11 hours in desktop mode. The device also equips users with Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. There’s 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD.
Initially announced in September for the US and UK markets, the device will soon be available in an additional 11 countries (Australia, France, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam). The India availability of the HP Spectre Fold is not known as of now.
The HP Spectre Fold is priced at $4,999 (roughly Rs 4.2 lakh) in the US and has been made available in limited quantities as of now.
