‘I don’t get it’: Former Australia pacer slams New Zealand for helping Virat Kohli | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Former Australian fast bowler, Simon O’Donnell, has criticised New Zealand‘s gesture of assisting Virat Kohli when he was suffering from cramps during the World Cup semi-final against India. O’Donnell expressed his disapproval, questioning the decision to aid Kohli, who went on to score his 50th ODI century.
Riding on Kohli’s century and a remarkable seven-wicket haul by pacer Mohammed Shami, India emerged victorious by 70 runs over New Zealand in the semi-final at Wankhede Stadium.

O’Donnell, speaking on Sen Radio, raised concerns about the spirit of the game, stating, “Why would you go and help Virat Kohli when he had a cramp? When they’re heading for 400. In a World Cup semi-final. Spirit of the game is playing within the laws.”

He further emphasised that, regardless of the match outcome, New Zealand players should not have approached Kohli when he was experiencing cramps. O’Donnell suggested that being competitive is one thing, but assisting an opponent who is physically challenged doesn’t align with the competitive spirit.
“I don’t get it, I just don’t get it. Stuff helping him out, he’s made 50 One-Day hundreds, why help him make the 50th against you in a World Cup semifinal? Give me a spell,” O’Donnell added.
The criticism comes in light of Kohli’s visible struggle with cramps during his innings of 117 in the semifinal.
