The September 13 launch date rumour was also circulated by a 9t5Mac report. Last week, a report by 9to5Mac suggested that major American carriers have told employees not to take off on September 13 because of a “major smartphone announcement”.
The rumoured dates do fall in line with previous iPhone launches. Last year, Apple announced the iPhone 14 on September 7.
iPhone 15 series: What to expect
The iPhone 15 is expected to be powered by the A17 Bionic chip, which will be a significant upgrade over the A16 chip in the iPhone 14. The A17 chip is expected to be faster and more efficient, which could lead to improved performance and battery life. However, the new chip could be reserved for the Pro models only.
Furthermore, it is rumoured that all the iPhone 15 models will have a 48-megapixel rear camera. For the non-Pro models, this would be a significant upgrade over the 12-megapixel cameras.
The iPhone 15 Pro models are rumoured to have a periscope zoom lens, which would allow for up to 6x optical zoom. This would be a significant improvement over the 3x optical zoom in the iPhone 14 Pro models.
Also, it is almost certain that the iPhone 15 series will switch from the Lightning port to the USB-C port. It is a decision that has been forced on Apple by the European Union.
Lastly, the iPhone 15 Pro models are rumoured to have a titanium frame, which would make them more durable than the stainless steel frames in previous models. The titanium frame will also make the iPhone 15 Pro much lighter than the previous generation devices.
