NEW DELHI: Long jumper Jeswin Aldrin, the world’s season leader, showcased his best performance in five months by clearing an impressive 8.22m to clinch the gold medal at the CITIUS Meeting in Bern, Switzerland. This remarkable achievement marks his fourth career-best performance.

The 21-year-old Aldrin had previously set the bar high with an astonishing 8.42m jump during the National Open Jumps Competition in Bellary on March 2, which currently stands as the best long jump in the world for this season. Following that stellar performance, he managed two more 8m-plus efforts during his stint in Havana, Cuba, in May.
However, Aldrin faced a period of struggle in subsequent months, as he grappled to reach the 8m mark in his jumps. The athlete also had to battle with injuries during this time, posing further challenges to his exceptional abilities.

The CITIUS Meeting in Bern, a World Athletics Tour bronze level event, served as a platform for Aldrin to reclaim his top form. With an astounding leap of 8.22m, he demonstrated his unwavering determination and skill on the field, clinching the coveted gold medal.
Earlier in June, Aldrin had secured a silver medal in the National Inter-State Championships held in Bhubaneswar, where he achieved a jump of 7.98m. Despite facing setbacks and injuries, his relentless pursuit of excellence has earned him a spot at the upcoming World Athletics Championships scheduled to take place from August 19 to 27 in Budapest, Hungary.
Notably, Aldrin did not compete in the Asian Championships in July due to concerns about his fitness.
