Sinha joined the mourners at 11 am, offered chaddar and paid rich tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain. He also distributed refreshments among the people. He urged the people to imbibe the ideals of Hazrat Imam Hussain and work unitedly for peace and progress.
The Shia community expressed gratitude to the LG and thanked him for allowing the 8th and 10 Muharram processions along the traditional routes after a gap of 34 years.
“We feel delighted to see the LG sahib among us today. It is a moment of pride for us. Arrangements made by the administration are up to the mark,” said a mourner.
Additional DGP (Kashmir), Vijay Kumar, said foolproof security cover was in place for the Ashoora procession from Botakadal area to Imambara Zadibal.
Officers had been on the ground since midnight to ensure that it was a smooth and peaceful affair, he said, crediting the people for making the “change” possible in Kashmir.
On 8th Muharram, the administration had allowed the procession from Guru Bazar to Dal Gate via Lal Chowk on Thursday for the first time in 34 years.
