The debut episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8 was a mush fest of hugs, kisses, compliments and all things LOVE. Karan Johar invited Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, who he referred to as Bollywood royalty, to grace the first episode.
From the start, the memo seemed clear, bash all divorce rumours that have been haunting the couple since the past few months. Ranveer refused to sit even an inch apart from his lady love and neither we nor the fans will be complaining! The chemistry was fiery and further extended by Deepika’s possessive gesture of keeping her hand lovingly over Ranveer’s lap, almost all through the episode.
Ranveer’s confession of proposing marriage to Deepika amid ‘many secret suitors’ to their fairy tale wedding video and Deepika admitting that ‘marriage is work’ – the couch of confessions made this couple get as candid as possible.Ranveer assumed his usual talkative duty, leaving the otherwise enthusiastic host, KJo at a loss of words. It seemed like Ranveer was dying for someone to ask him about his love story for the past 11 years! This reminder of romance ended up making Karan Johar reach out for the box of tissues.
What followed this emotional confession of over 15 minutes was another sweet session on Ranveer-DP’s marriage ceremony, relationship ups and downs and their family’s support. A re-telling of Deepika’s battle with depression also made it to the episode, but with a perspective of Ranveer’s support to her and Karan Johar’s own recent tryst with mental health.
The rapid fire was indeed on fire and we felt like Ranveer Singh was a clear winner but had to make do with a kiss from Deepika Padukone, which felt like a more prized win for the actor, over Karan’s coveted hamper.
In all, romantic tea was spilled, coffee confessions were sparing but interesting, it was tad too touchy at times but the episode ended up inspiring all singles who are desperately searching for a partner, including Karan Johar!
