KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode district collector on Saturday issued an order directing that the educational institutions in the district which were shut following the Nipah outbreak should restart normal functioning, except in containment zones, from Monday onwards.
Online classes would continue in containment zones until the restrictions imposed are lifted, collector A Geetha said in the order. The decision comes in the wake of the reports that Nipah outbreak is under control in the district.
Students and teachers should reach all other schools as usual from Monday onwards. Teachers, students, and other staff of the schools should use sanitizers and masks. Sanitizer should be kept at the entrance of the schools and at classrooms and everyone should sanitize using the same.
Through an order issued on September 16, all educational institutions, including coaching centres and tuition centres, were directed to shift their teaching to online mode between September 18 till September 23 in view of the outbreak.
Meanwhile, health minister Veena George told a news conference on Saturday that the community surveillance as part of Nipah preventive measures would continue in the district. Activities of One Health project, which targets better health for not only humans but also the environment, animals, and other life forms etc., would begin in the district.
She said that it was a relief that for the past eight days there were no new cases of Nipah in the district. George said that the nine-year-old who was undergoing treatment had good improvement and that the condition of the others who were undergoing treatment was satisfactory. The results of eight samples received on Saturday were also negative. So far, samples of 372 persons have been sent for testing. As many as 915 persons are there on the contact list of the patients.
The team from ICMR which visited Kozhikode against the backdrop of the outbreak has returned. Surveillance, including that of the animal husbandry department, is continuing. PG students and technicians have been given training from the medical college in connection with the Nipah prevention measures. The health minister also said that as part of zero surveillance, tests, including that of antibody in persons who had closely mingled with the patients, would be conducted.
Meanwhile, a PSC exam which was supposed to be held at Kozhikode GHSS Beypore on Tuesday was shifted to other two schools since this school was in the containment zone.
