Gambhir made his way back to the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise as he was appointed ‘Mentor’ by the SRK-owned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which won its two titles in 2012 and 2014 under his capable leadership.
When asked by an ardent KKR supporter on X, formerly Twitter, during the Q&A session why Gambhir has returned to our team again.
To which the charismatic SRK humbly replied that he is family.
“Kyunki @GautamGambhir humaara apna hai. KKR ka Captaan hai or family hai,” Shah Rukh posted on X.
Gambhir, who announced his arrival on X, had led KKR from 2011 to 2017 before leaving the team to lead the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their “Mentor” for the last two seasons.
“I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the ‘City of Joy’. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR,” the former India opener posted on X.
LSG, despite securing play-off berths in consecutive seasons, faced challenges progressing further. Consequently, the team opted to bring in Justin Langer, a seasoned former Australian opener and T20 World Cup champion, to take on the role of coach.
