NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its fifth list of 92 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, which will take place on November 17 .
Notably, the list excluded sitting Indore-3 MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, the son of prominent party figure Kailash Vijayvargiya, who is running for the Indore-1 segment. Replacing Akash in the Indore-3 constituency is Rakesh Golu Shukla.
This latest list also sees several incumbent MLAs being left out by BJP. The ruling party has now declared 228 out of 230 candidates for the upcoming elections, with only the Guna and Vidisha seats remaining to be confirmed.
A significant aspect of this announcement is the inclusion of 12 female candidates, including former state ministers Maya Singh and Archana Chitnis, who will be running in Gwalior East and Burhanpur assembly segments, respectively. Incumbent minister Usha Thakur has been nominated once again to represent the Mhow seat.
In addition, the fifth list introduces several candidates, such as former state ministers Jayant Malaiya and Surendra Patwa. Surendra, nephew of former MP chief minister Sunderlal Patwa, will contest from Bhojpur in Raisen district, while Mahendra Singh Sisodia, a loyalist of Union Minister Jyotraditya Scindia, is renominated from Bamori in Guna district.
Malaiya (75), who lost to Congress candidate Rahul Singh Lodhi in the 2018 elections, was denied a ticket in the 2020 bypoll, which was called after Lodhi’s resignation from Congress and subsequent joining of BJP. Lodhi himself lost the bypoll after joining BJP.
Furthermore, state minister Gaurishanker Bisen has been replaced by his daughter, Mausam Bisen, as the candidate for Balaghat constituency.
The counting of votes will take place on December 3.
