Maharashtra’s labour ministry sends notice to TCS, here’s what the complaint said

Maharashtra’s labour and employment ministry has reportedly issued a notice to India’s largest IT services company, Tata Consultancy Services. The notice comes following a complaint regarding delayed onboarding of lateral recruits by the software major.
According to a report in Economic Times, the labour ministry issued the notice on the complaint of Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) that had filed the complaint.NITES is said to have filed the complaint on behalf of over 2,000 lateral recruits, who have been adversely affected by the unexpected delay in their onboarding process byTCS.

The labour department notice reportedly has asked for four senior TCS executives to meet department officials on November 2 at the Pune labour department office.
What NITEs complaint says
In a grievance filed with the ministry of labour and employment earlier this year, NITES highlighted that professionals, with varying experience levels ranging from 1.8 to 15 years, have been awaiting onboarding. Many are said to have been waiting for months without a source of income. NITES had urged the ministry of labour and employment to intervene in the matter and issue specific directives to TCS.
In its list of demands, NITES has asked that these professionals be paid their full salaries for the months for which their onboarding has been delayed. This includes: to provide the affected employees with access to TCS’s employee assistance programme and to collaborate with the affected employees to identify alternative employment opportunities within TCS.
“We call upon all stakeholders, including TCS, to prioritise the well-being and security of these employees, who form the backbone of our nation’s IT industry,” NITES said in a statement.
TCS to go slow on hiring
TCS chief HR officer Milind Lakkad had recently said that the company will go slow on hiring. The company’s headcount reduced by 6,333 sequentially, indicating a demand dip. It ended the period with 608,985 employees. This compares to a growth of only 523 reported last quarter as the company slowed down hiring. The company had added 9,840 employees during the same quarter last year. Attrition for the quarter stood at 14.9% compared to 17.8% last quarter.
The company said lower attrition and heavy investment in freshers is the reason behind net fall in the headcount numbers.
