Faizal Saari, Shello Silverious, Abu Kamal Azrai, and Najmi Jazlan scored the goals for the winning side.
Woo Cheon Ji and Jonghyun Jang found the back of the net for Korea.
As it happened: Malaysia vs Korea
The first quarter began on a high note for both teams, as Korea claimed the lead after just three minutes, thanks to Ji’s field goal.
However, it did not take long for Malaysia to equalise the score, as Azrai scored a field goal on his own in the next minute to break the tie.
Malaysia gained the lead this time after one attack each, as Jazlan scored for the side on a penalty corner rebound in the ninth minute.
While Malaysia’s Amirul Azahar was sent off in the following minute, it was a PC for Korea in the 14th, with Jang coming up with a terrific drag-flick to equalise.
Malaysia earned a PC just four minutes into the second quarter, and it was converted by Saari. Jazlan also scored the Malaysians’ fourth goal in the 21st minute with another PC.
Despite the Malaysians’ strong attack, the Koreans held on for the rest of the quarter, and trailed 2-4 at the half-time break.
It was a fierce duel between the two sides when the ends were exchanged in the third quarter, with Malaysia’s Khaliq Hamirin receiving a yellow card in the 41st.
While Korea was awarded a penalty corner two minutes later, it was turned into a penalty stroke on referral from the following short corner.
However, Jihun Yang’s attempt was saved by Malaysian custodian Hafizuddin Othman.
As the fourth quarter began, Silverius converted Ashran Hamsani’s ball into the Malaysians’ fifth goal, and the very next minute, he tapped in the sixth after Seunghoon deflected Najib Hassan’s pass to the scorer.
There was nothing to add to the scoreboard as Korea made a goalkeeping change, bringing in Jaehan Kim for Jaehyeon Kim.
