Media Watchdog: Elon Musk wants to file ‘thermonuclear lawsuit’ against media watchdog, says advertisers are ‘oppressors’

Elon Musk isn’t too happy right now with a media watchdog and many advertisers on X. The billionaire owner of the social media platform has threatened to sue Media Matters with a “thermonuclear lawsuit” and also ended up calling advertisers on X “oppressors”.

Why does Musk want to sue Media Matters?

Last week, Media Matters reported that Musk was propagating anti-semitism views on X and was endorsing them. This led to several advertisers pulling off ads from X. The names of advertisers included IBM, Apple, Comcast among others. Media Matters’s report clearly got Musk worked up and he posted, “The split second court opens on Monday, X Corp will be filing athermonuclear lawsuit against Media Matters and ALL those who colluded in this fraudulent attack on our company.” He added, “Their board, their donors, their network of dark money, all of them…” Musk also said in subsequent post that “the discovery and depositions will be glorious to behold.” In an earlier post, he called Media Matters “pure evil”. There has been no work from the media watchdog on Musk’s threats to file a “thermonuclear lawsuit”.
Several advertisers have indeed pulled the plug on advertising on X. In a post promoting X’s Premium+ subscription service, Musk also said — without taking names — that “many of the largest advertisers are the greatest oppressors of your right to free speech.”
Earlier today, Musk posted on X again called all media stories that alleged he was antisemitic as “bogus”. This past week, there were hundreds of bogus media stories claiming that I am antisemitic. Nothing could be further from the truth. I wish only the best for humanity and a prosperous and exciting future for all.”
