Microsoft: Microsoft is ending support for work tools browser extension: What it means for users

The Microsoft 365 browser extension is a free extension available on browsers including Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome that provides users access to your Microsoft 365 apps and documents on the web. Microsoft has announced that it is ending support for the extension.
The extension, which has more than 6 million users on Chromeand has been installed by more than 4 million users on Edge, will be retired on January 15, 2024.It means that after this date, the extension will no longer receive security updates,non-security updates, bug fixes, or technical support.
“The Microsoft 365 browser extension will also be removed from Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome web stores as an extension add-on,” Microsoft announced.
How to remove the Microsoft 365 browser extension in Microsoft Edge

  • Microsoft Edge users are recommended to remove the extension. Here’s how they can do it:
  • Sign-in with your Microsoft Account, and select the Microsoft 365 browser extension icon next to the address bar in your browser.
  • In Settings, right click and select Remove from Microsoft Edge or go to Manage extensions to uninstall the extension.

Users can now access Microsoft 365 apps directly from the Microsoft Edge sidebar to get quick access to tools, apps and more within your current tab.
How to remove the Microsoft 365 browser extension in Google Chrome

  • Those who have installed the Microsoft 365 browser extension on Chrome can remove the extension in the listed steps below:
  • Sign-in with your Microsoft Account, and select the Microsoft 365 browser extension icon next to the address bar in your browser.
  • In Settings, right click and select Remove from Chrome or go to Manage extensions to remove the extension.

Users can still access Microsoft 365 apps for free on the web from www.microsoft365.com and bookmark the page in the Chrome browser for quick access.
