MP mantri & Scindia aide booked for pledging Rs 25 lakh to manager of ‘best’ booth | Madhya Pradesh Election News

NEW DELHI: With Madhya Pradesh minister Govind Singh Rajput booked for poll code violation for allegedly promising Rs 25 lakh to the booth that gives him maximum votes, Congress on Tuesday dubbed the case as symptomatic of the corruption in the BJP government, and demanded that Rajput be sacked as minister and also barred from contesting polls.
Rajput, who holds the key transport and revenue portfolios in Shivraj Singh Chouhan government and is close to Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, is the BJP candidate from Surkhi constituency in Sagar district. An FIR was registered against him at Rahatgarh police station following a complaint filed with the district election officer.
Addressing a press conference, AICC spokesperson Sobha Oza said Rajput’s case is not an isolated instance but is the tip of the iceberg, as she replayed the now viral video of senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya in which he is seen promising money to the booths in his Indore constituency that ensure no votes are polled in favour of his Congress rival.
Oza said the comments from senior BJP leaders betray a realisation in the ruling party that BJP is losing the electoral battle for Bhopal, which is forcing its members to resort to such blatant monetary inducements. She said Rajput needs to be questioned for the source of the huge amount of money that he is offering to the in-charges of his election booths.
The MP Congress leader said Rajput is a confidant of Scindia and was among those who “betrayed” the party in 2020 when the BJP bought MLAs “by paying Rs 35 crore to each of them” to topple the Congress government led by CM Kamal Nath. She claimed the same money is now being used to buy the votes.
In the case of Rajput, a video was attached with the complaint to the district election officer. “On the basis of the complaint, the returning officer of Surkhi conducted an investigation. After verification of the video, a case was registered at Rahatgarh police station against BJP candidate Govind Singh Rajput,” district collector Deepak Arya told TOI.
