Millionaire entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy lit the fuse when he ridiculed former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley‘s pledge to ban tik-tok over security concerns, saying her daughter has been using the Chinese-owned app for a long time, and “you might want to take care of your family first before preaching to anyone else.”
“Leave my daughter out of your voice,” Haley snapped back as the audience booed Ramaswamy.“You’re just scum,” she added.

Ramaswamy also ignited another snippy moment when he compared Haley and Florida governor Ron DeSantis to “Dick Cheney in three-inch heels,” for their muscular support for Israel to completely eviscerate Hamas, arguing that while Israel has the right to defend itself, he wanted to “to avoid making the mistakes from the establishment of the past.”
Cheney, a former vice-president was known as a warmongering neocon hawk and DeSantis has been ridiculed for wearing cowboy boots with heels to make him look taller.
“They’re five-inch heels. And I don’t wear them unless you can run in them. The second thing I will say is… They’re not for a fashion statement…they’re for ammunition,” Haley clapped back later.
The two sulfurous, meme-worthy moments overshadowed a foreign policy-centric debate where Haley, who is rising quickly in the polls but still trails Trump by a wide margin, sought to buttress her credentials, having served previously as the US ambassador to the United Nations. By most accounts and post-debate surveys, she came out on top.
The debate also sounded a warning for international students participating in political activism on campuses with calls for visa revocation and ideological tests for universities to receive federal funding. Many US campuses are roiling with protests, mostly directed at Israel, for its relentless attacks on Gaza.Watch Debate on TikTok gets personal between Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy
