BHUBANESHWAR: Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s trusted aide V K Pandian will soon join BJD and occupy a prominent position in the party, with speculations being rife that he might eventually succeed Naveen.
Top sources said BJD has been charting a plan to bring on board the former IAS officer sooner than expected. “Pandian’s joining can happen anytime. He will play a key role in the party’s strategies for 2024 elections,” a senior BJD leader said.
As Naveen will seek votes for a sixth term in office next year, the CM’s former secretary would be his key poll planner, he added.
Speaking to TOI on Thursday, Pandian said he was currently focused on the task at hand. “I have been given the responsibility of working on the chief minister’s vision for a new Odisha using the principles of 5T (Transparency, Technology, Teamwork, Transformation and Time). That’s what I am busy doing now,” the former bureaucrat said.
Pandian was appointed chairman of two flagship government programmes — 5T (transformational initiatives) and Nabin Odisha, a Rs 3,397 crore initiative to promote ‘Jagannath culture’ and improve rural infrastructure — a day after he took voluntary retirement last month.
