OpenAI: ChatGPT vs Grok: OpenAI CEO takes dig at Elon Musk’s AI chatbot

Elon Musk’s relationship with OpenAI is known to everyone. Musk, who has been very vocal about how OpenAI turned from a non-profit organisation to a for-profit one after Microsoft’s billion-dollar backing, recently launched xAI’s chatbot Grok to compete with the likes of ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. And this time, it was OpenAI Sam Altman’s turn to take a dig at the new competitor.
The X owner has promoted Grok as a chatbot with a rebellious streak and humour. His company also said that the chatbot “will also answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems.” This feature apparently gave the opportunity to Altman attack Grok and at the same time promote its recently-announced GPTs.
What are GPTs
GPTs are ChatGPT-like chatbots that developers can use to create chatbots for a specific purpose.
In a post on X, Altman shared a screenshot in which he asked the GPT Builder to “be a chatbot that answers questions with cringey boomer humour in a sort of awkward shock-to-get-laughs sort of way.”

The GPT Builder replies, “Great, the chatbot is set up! Its name is Grok. How do you like the name, or would you prefer something else?” Altman then said, “GPTs can save a lot of effort:” apparently suggesting that Musk could have asked the GPT builder to make a chatbot for him instead of spending time and effort on a separate company.
This quickly turned into a meme fest. While one user said, “Sam woke up today and chose violence” another one posted a picture of a grumpy Musk, with caption “sir, it appears we have been outmemed,”

Altman’s post came soon after a Twitter user shared screenshots of Grok’s reply to a question, “I asked Grok who they think would win in a cage fight between them and ChatGPT.” He asked the chatbot to be vulgar. The post attracted Musk’s attention and he reacted with “fire” and “laughing” emojis.
