NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency on Friday arrested absconding Popular Front of India (PFI) member Shihab @ Babu from Malappuram, Kerala, in the case relating to murder of RSS leader Srinivasan at Palakkad, Kerala on April 16, 2022.
Shihab, who had been on the run since the commission of the crime, was traced to his residence in Malappuram by NIA’s dedicated absconder tracking team. NIA on Friday said he was part of the PFI terror eco-system that had orchestrated Srinivasan’s cold-blooded murder. Shihab had allegedly harbored Muhammed Hakeem, who, at the behest of PFI leadership, was responsible for destruction of crucial evidence in the case.
The latest arrest came five months after the NIA absconder tracking team had caught up with Saheer K V, another accused in the case who was carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh. Saheer, who was in the ‘PFI assault and protection team’ that allegedly killed RSS office bearer Srinivasan as part of a larger PFI plot to target “non-believers” opposing the outfit’s mission to establish the rule of Islam in India by 2047, was at a relative’s house in Palakkad when the NIA arrested him in May.
NIA had in March filed a chargesheet against 59 accused in the case. A total 69 accused have been identified as involved in the conspiracy relating to the murder. Srinivasan was killed with swords and knives at his shop in Palakkad by a six-member gang of PFI.
As per the chargesheet filed by NIA against PFI and its leaders and cadres, CDR analysis on the phone of accused Mohammed Basheer, PFI state president of Kerala and a resident of Malappuram district, had shown his tower location in Palakkad on the day of Srinivasan’s murder. He also had telephonic contact during the time of the offence with many top PFI leaders including PFI chairman O M A Salam, PFI vice-chairman E M Abdul Rahiman, PFI national secretary and authorised signatory V P Nazarudheen and PFI founding chairman E Abubacker.
