Pixel Smartphones: Google CEO Sundar Pichai on made-in-India Pixel phones

Google has announced that it will start making the recently-launched Pixel 8 smartphone in India and the phones will be available in 2024. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, underlined the company’s commitment to India’s digital growth and innovation.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) soon after the Google for India 2023 event, Pichai also appreciated the IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the support for make in india.
“We shared plans at #GoogleforIndia to manufacture Pixel smartphones locally and expect the first devices to roll out in 2024. We’re committed to being a trusted partner in India’s digital growth- appreciate the support for Make In India @PMOIndia + MEIT Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw,” Pichai said.

Google announced that it is partnering with international and domestic manufacturers in India to produce Pixel smartphones locally.
Rick Osterloh, senior vice president of devices and services, who flew down to India, said that is a priority for Pixel smartphones. He also noted the “significant momentum for Pixel in the country over the past several years.”
“We’re humbled at how India has embraced our consistent smartphone innovations, and continue to receive heartening feedback from our partners and our growing #TeamPixel family,” Osterloh said.
“When we set out with our hardware business, we committed to building and investing for the long run, and our plan to manufacture in India is an early step in the long journey of expanding our device production capacity and helping meet the country’s growing demand for Pixel smartphones,” he added.
The company will share more details on expanding their device production capacity and “helping meet the country’s growing demand for Pixel.”
Google said that they now have 28 service centres in 27 cities in India, and will continue to expand coverage to more locations and cities in the coming months.
