‘PM Modi silent on Manipur because …’ Rahul Gandhi’s stinging attack | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched an all-out attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP-RSS over the ongoing violence in Manipur and claimed that the ruling party will let any state burn in their quest for power.

In his virtual address to the workers of Indian Youth Congress, Rahul said that BJP-RSS only cares about power and does not bother about the pain of the people.
“They only want power and can do anything to get it. They will let Manipur burn, they will let Haryana, Punjab and UP burn because they only want power,” he said.

Seeking to draw ideological parallels, Rahul said that while young Congress workers personally feel the pain of the people when incidents like Manipur happen, those in BJP and RSS do not feel such pain. “That’s because they are trying to divide the country. They have been doing it for years,” he said.
Rahul further said that there is an ideological battle going on in the country between the BJP-RSS and the Congress.
“Congress believes in the Constitution, uniting the country and fighting against India’s unequal social system. Whereas, RSS-BJP wants that a select few people run this country and own all the wealth. They want all the institutions, including judiciary, Army, Election Commission and schools, to be under their control,” he said.
Training his guns directly on Modi, Rahul alleged that the Prime Minister serves only a select few in the country and has no business with violence-hit Manipur.
“You saw what happened in Manipur. You won’t be surprised that PM Modi didn’t utter a single word about Manipur. You must have thought that if a state in India is burning, then India’s Prime Minister would have reacted at least. You would have thought that the Indian PM would have gone to Imphal to talk to people,” Rahul asked the youth Congress workers.
He added that the reason Modi is silent on Manipur is because he is “the Prime Minister of a selected few”.
“He is RSS’s Prime Minister. He has no business with Manipur. He knows that his ideology has led to the violence in Manipur. But he is unaffected by what’s happening on the ground and the pain of women and children,” the former Congress president said.
The Congress had shared excerpts of Gandhi’s speech on its Twitter handle.
Rahul’s stinging remarks come in the backdrop of the logjam in Parliament over the Manipur issue with both the Houses witnessing multiple adjournments.
Union home minister Amit Shah has said that the government is ready for a debate on Manipur in the House. However, the opposition alliance INDIA wants PM Modi to personally address the issue in Parliament.
On Wednesday, the Congress moved a no-confidence motion against the Modi government over the Manipur issue. The motion has been accepted by Speaker Om Birla.
Before the beginning of the monsoon session of Parliament, the Prime Minister expressed “sorrow and anger” at the horrifying video of assault on two tribal girls in Manipur.
