NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the way August 15 is a day of celebration of India’s Independence and January 26 of our Republic, October 31 has become “a festival of communication of nationalism”. He was addressing a ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ or National Unity Day event at Statue of Unity in Gujarat.
Paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he said: “On this pious occasion, I bow at the feet of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.I congratulate the countrymen on National Unity Day. The next 25 years are the most crucial 25 years of this decade for India … In these 25 years, we have to make India prosperous, we have to make India developed … we have to derive inspiration from Sardar Patel to achieve every goal …”
He also said that at a time when several countries are facing high inflation, India’s banner is high. “Today, the entire world acknowledges the unwavering determination of India, the courage and resilience of its people,” he said, adding that “there is no objective beyond India’s reach”.
Talking about the celebrations and performances at the event, he said: “In a way, the form of mini India is visible in front of me today. The state is different, the language is different, the tradition is different, but every person present here is united. It is connected with a strong thread…The events at the Red Fort on August 15, the parade on January 26 at Kartavya Path and the Unity Day Celebrations at the banks of Narmada have become the three powers of the nation’s upliftment.”
The Prime Minister, in his speech, also hailed the abrogation of Article 370. “The wall of Article 370 between India and Kashmir have been removed. Now, people of Kashmir have come out of the shadows of terrorism,” he said.

Remembering Sardar Patel, PM Modi mentioned about his life, sacrifice and his contribution in building “one India”. “The story of the construction of this statue itself reflects the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat – Shrestha Bharat’… Lakhs of people are participating in ‘Run for Unity’ across the country. Lakhs of people are taking part in it through cultural programmes. When we see this flow of unity among 140 crore Indians, it seems the ideals of Sardar Saheb are running within us in the form of the resolve of ‘Ek Bharat-Shrestha Bharat’, he said.
