NEW DELHI: Quinton de Kock continues his sublime touch in the ODI World Cup with his third hundred of the tournament in just five innings. The wicketkeeper batter smashed a brilliant 174 as South Africa piled up 382-5 against Bangladesh at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.
De Kock’s knock saw him own the record of highest score for a designated wicketkeeper in World Cup history, going past Adam Gilchrist‘s 149 in the 2007 final against Sri Lanka.
The left-handed batter, who clobbered 15 fours and seven sixes during his 140-ball stay at the crease, also became the first South African batter to score three centuries in a single World Cup.

De Kock’s latest century followed scores of 100 and 109 during South Africa’s opening two matches against Sri Lanka and Australia respectively.
He reached his 20th century in his 150th ODI and was on the verge of potentially becoming the third batsman to achieve a double century in the World Cup when he mistimed a shot and sent the ball to deep backward point, missing out on the opportunity.
The 30-year-old de Kock went past India’s Virat Kohli for most runs and also eclipsed Australia’s David Warner (163) to record the highest individual score in this World Cup.

The wicketkeeper-batsman became the only seventh South African player to score more than 12,000 international runs and now has 12,160 runs in 284 international matches.
South Africa was in a precarious situation at 36-2 after winning the toss. However, de Kock’s partnership for the third wicket with stand-in captain Aiden Markram, who contributed 60, altered the course of the match in favour of the Proteas.
Subsequently, he teamed up with Heinrich Klaasen, forming a substantial partnership of 142 for the fourth wicket, propelling South Africa comfortably beyond the 300-run mark.
