Talking to media persons in the BJP headquarters in the national capital, Ranjeeta Koli and Diya Kumari also attacked Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and accused her of remaining silent on the rampant crimes against women in Rajasthan.
Ranjeeta Koli, an MP from Bharatpur and state vice-president of Mahila Morcha, comes from the Dalit community. She said the state has been known for its tradition of respect for women. But it has been reduced to “rapist Rajasthan”, she alleged.
Diya Kumari, MP from Rajsamand, also slammed the Congress government in the state, citing the recent case of a girl being allegedly raped and killed. The girl’s burnt body was recovered from a coal furnace in Bhilwara.
“Rajasthan has become the rape capital,” she said, citing National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) figures of cases of atrocities against women in which the state fares poorly.
The MPs said a burnt dead body of a girl child was found in Narsinghpur village of Bhilwara on Thursday. The girl was grazing goats in the field with her mother and suddenly disappeared. The relatives filed a report in the police station. After searching, the burnt body of the girl child was found in a furnace.
According to Koli and Kumari, the relatives said the girl was gang-raped and the Rajasthan Police did not take the actions which should have been taken in the incident.
They said Priyanka visited Ranthambore and alleged that she did not even go to the house of any victim to console them. They took a dog at the Congress leader’s slogan “I am a girl, I can fight” and asked whether the girl of Rajasthan is not a girl. “Who will give justice to the Rajasthan girl?” they asked.
They further said in Barmer, a woman was raped and killed by pouring acid on her. The police were also involved in the rape that took place in Bikaner’s Khajuwala. “Everyday such incidents are coming to the fore from every district and are continuously increasing,” they said.
The MPs noted that Rajasthan is the land of Padmini and Pannadhay. Daughters used to be respected here. But now Rajasthan is number one in crimes against women, they added.
Both the MPs cited several recent cases of sexual assault and killing of women.
“Women are not safe even at home,” Kumari said.
