MUMBAI: The RBI has asked members of the public continuing to hold Rs 2,000 banknotes to send them to its office through India Post. The central bank has said that these notes continue to be legal tender, but only Rs 10,000 crore worth of them are in circulation. The director general postal services can allow the transmission of notes/coins for specific purposes, provided they are under RBI guidelines.
