Reliance Jio to government: Achieved 5G rollout obligations in all circles

India’s largest telecom company Reliance Jio has informed the government that it has achieved 5G rollout obligations in all circles, and that it is ready to be tested as per stipulated parameters. The company has reportedly sent out a communication to the Telecom Department (DoT) term cell informing them about rollouts achieved in all circles, according to a report in news agency PTI quoting sources.

In the next step, the term cells will pick 10 per cent sites for testing. Once the test results meet the required parameters, the certificate about completion of rollout obligation is issued, they reportedly explained.

It further claimed that the telco has successfully tested 5G services on bands of 26GHz and 3300MHz spectrum in Gujarat circle. “Gujarat LSA conducted Phase I of 5G roll out testing in 26 GHz and 3300 MHz spectrum allocated to Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd,” DoT’s Gujarat wing said in a post on Twitter, now rebranded X.
Per capita monthly data usage increased 20%
“5G adoption and FTTH ramp-up drive strong 28.3 per cent Y-o-Y growth in data usage as monthly data traffic on the Jio network crosses 11 Exabytes during the first quarter of FY2024,” the company said during its recent earnings call. The per capita monthly data usage increased 20 per cent year-on-year to 24.9GB.
Reliance Jio has deployed over 115,000 sites with about 690,000 5G cells covering more than 90 percent census towns. “Jio continues to make rapid progress in rolling out its True5G network. Jio is on track to complete pan India 5G rollout before December 2023,” Reliance Jio Infocomm, Chairman, Akash M Ambani said.
As per TRAI’s latest data, Reliance Jio recorded net subscriber addition of 3.03 million taking its total mobile customer base to 436.3 million and Bharti Airtel added 1.32 million wireless subscribers taking its total customer base to 372.31 million. Jio added 3,25,336, Airtel 1,25,586, Tata Teleservices 17,349, Quadrant 6,453 and V-Con Mobile and Infra added 99 new customers.
