Russian President Vladimir Putin discusses bilateral ties, Brics expansion with PM Modi in phone call | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed bilateral ties including space cooperation, the expansion of the Brics group and the upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone, the PMO said in a statement on Monday.
A release by the Kremlin added that Putin and PM Modi expressed mutual desire to implement large-scale energy projects and expand “the international transport and logistics infrastructure”.

Putin also once again congratulated PM Modi on the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the South Pole of the Moon, and the leaders confirmed their intention to develop space cooperation, the Kremlin said.

The two leaders reviewed progress on number of issues of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, including the recently concluded Brics summit in Johannesburg, said the release by the PMO.
The two leaders took part in the summit of emerging economies in South Africa last week, PM Modi in person and Putin by video link.
Russia is set to assume the Brics chairmanship from next year.

The release further said that President Putin conveyed his inability to attend the G20 summit in New Delhi on September 9-10 and informed that Russia would be represented by foreign minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov.
“While expressing an understanding for Russia’s decision, PM Modi thanked President Putin for Russia’s consistent support to all initiatives under India’s G20 Presidency,” read the PMO statement.
