Samsung: Samsung dominates over 80% of smartphone market in home turf: Report

South Korea-based tech giant Samsung has captured more than 80% of the smartphone market share in its home country in the third quarter of 2023. According to Counterpoint data (seen by Yonhap news agency), the company were able to achieve these numbers amid the declining demands for high-end smartphones and other gadgets. The report also states that around 3.4 million smartphones were sold in South Korea by Samsung during Q3 (which is between July to September)
The report claims that the numbers were down by 10% during the same period a year ago.The popularity of Samsung’s latest flip and foldable devices — the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and theGalaxy Z Fold 5 helped the company to capture a higher market share, the report adds.
Apple’s market share increased by 15%
In this quarter, Apple has also managed to increase its market share in South Korea to 15%. These numbers were impressive for the US-based smartphone maker even after the iPhone 15 series a month later in the South Korean market.
The report also adds that other smartphone makers like Motorola held the remaining 1% market. As per the report, South Korean users are attracted to the unique and distinguished characteristics of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 models. These models helped the company to dominate 84% of the entire market.

Samsung launched its latest foldable smartphones in August. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 sports a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display that supports a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Meanwhile, the cover screen has a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 features a 3.5-inch Super AMOLED cover display that supports a 60Hz refresh rate when folded. On unfolding, the smartphone reveals a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display.
Both foldable smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
