Jammu: Prompt action by a joint team of security forces on Monday evening led to the recovery and defusion of a 2.5kg improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists near Dul Hasti Power Project in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, official said.
“On a specific information given by Intelligenceagencies, a joint team of the army and police reached the spot along with the dog squad and cordoned off the area,” an official said.A bomb disposal squad too was rushed to the spot while movement of civilians and traffic in the area was stopped, he further said, adding that during thorough search of the area, the IED was recovered.
Following the SOPs, the bomb disposal squad shifted the IED to an abandoned area and defused it safely.
Officials said that the device had been planted close to the Dul Hasti Power Project and if not recovered and defused on time, it certainly had the potential of causing extensive damage.
A case has been registered in connection with the recovery of the explosive device and a hunt launched to apprehend the terrorists responsible for planting the IED. No arrests have been made so far, they said.
