Shivraj Singh Chouhan bids adieu with ‘jas-ki-tas’ Kabir couplet

BHOPAL: Before the swearing-in ceremony of Mohan Yadav, former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan bid adieu and said that he is confident that his successor will take the state to new heights of prosperity and development.
“Ab Vida, jas ki tas rakh dini chadariya (now farewell, I leave it as things are),” Chouhan told a large crowd of supporters, quoting from Sant Kabir.Chouhan served as chief minister for 16.5 years.
“The new chief minister of the state will take oath of office today at 11:30am and I am confident that he will take the state’s prosperity, development and people’s welfare to new heights. Congratulations to him. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and our party national president JP Nadda are reaching here. I welcome them all,” Chouhan said.
Supporters turned emotional as Chouhan waved goodbye
On Tuesday, in a farewell press meet, Chouhan had said that he would rather die than ask for something. “Which is why I didn’t go to Delhi (when CM-aspirants were),” he said. With him as CM, BJP won a landslide majority of 163 seats in the assembly election but the party high command decided to go for a new face.
After the oath-taking ceremony, Chouhan was on his way out and had barely gone a few metres when a large crowd surrounded his vehicle. Chouhan got out of the car and spoke to them. Many supporters turned emotional as he waved goodbye.
On Tuesday evening, as acting chief minister, Chouhan had visited the Motilal Nehru Stadium, venue of the swearing-in ceremony, to ascertain that all preparations were in order. CM designate Mohan Yadav, State BJP president VD Sharma, state party organizational general secretary Hitananda Sharma were also present. Speaking to reporters there, Chouhan said, “I am now the acting chief minister. It is my responsibility to ensure that proper arrangements are made so our chief minister and deputy chief ministers can take oath in a distinguished way. That is why I have come to the ground.”
