GUWAHATI: The Imphal valley in Manipur witnessed a spontaneous shutdown marked by grief and angry protests against the government as the mortal remains of 13 people killed by unidentified armed men in the state’s Tengnoupal district were laid to rest in Imphal East district on Wednesday, reports Prabin Kalita.
While family members identified all the deceased on Tuesday after the autopsy in Imphal, the official release of their identities is still pending.The police had reported on Monday that 13 people were killed in a firefight “between two groups of armed miscreants” at Leithao village in Tengnoupal, about 10km from the international boundary with Myanmar. The bodies were discovered by security forces.The circumstances surrounding how these people from Imphal valley found themselves in the remote location of Leithao village remain unclear.
