Sonos is said to bring its first pair of headphones to market next year, i.e., 2024. But more products are in the tow, including a set-top and a couple of speakers. There is also a new app in development to control all these products from one place.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, in the latest edition of his newsletter, Power On, has shed light on Sonos’ product roadmap for the upcoming year.
Sonos plans to take on Apple, Sony, and Bose with a pair of premium headphones
According to Gurman, new headphones codenamed “Duke” are expected to arrive in the first half of 2024. The over-the-ear headphones of Sonos are said to be priced above $400, which will compete with offerings from Sony, Bose, and Apple.
In a prior report, Gurman said that the headphones will be available in black and white and are set to be released by April 2022. The headphones will have a voice command feature that will enable the wearer to navigate between songs and sync with Sonos speakers. In addition to the headphones, Sonos is also developing a pair of truly wireless in-ear earbuds.
Moreover, there are also in-ceiling 8-inch speakers in the works that will be announced in the first half of next year, and the Sonos Roam 2, codenamed “Sidecar,” is expected to be launched in the middle of the year.
In the second half of 2024, a new “high-end amp” codenamed “Premier” is also set to be released. Meanwhile, a “high-end sound bar” codenamed “Lasso” is expected to arrive by the end of 2024.
Sonos set-top box to marks its debut in the video segment
The report also suggests that the set-top box, codenamed “Pinewood,” will be launched either in late 2024 or early 2025. The new set-top box, based on the Android operating system, is being developed primarily for running streaming apps. The manufacturer is currently in discussions with Netflix and other entertainment companies to bring them onboard the new platform.
The set-top box will be followed by a subwoofer codenamed “Lotus” in 2025. Additionally, a version of Sonos Era 100 designed for businesses and named “Raven” is expected to be released in 2024.
A Sonos app update called “Passport” will add the product controls in late 2023 or early 2024. Sonos Voice Control 2.0 is also coming in late 2024.
Sonos is hoping to increase its sales with the launch of new products. According to Sonos CEO Patrick Spence, these new products, including headphones, are expected to contribute significantly to the company’s revenue by the second half of 2024. However, the company has some concerns regarding two significant investments: the release of headphones and a move into video. Despite this, Sonos aims to differentiate itself by promoting its audiophile-friendly brand and its ability to fine-tune the audio quality.
