Special Judge: CBI files charges against 9 for woman’s murder | India News

GUWAHATI: The CBI has filed a chargesheet against nine accused in the alleged murder of a woman in Imphal East district during the height of the ongoing strife in the state on July 15.
A day after the gruesome act at Keibi Heikakmapal Maning Ching in Imphal East district, Manipur Police arrested nine persons were arrested and also seized a 303 rifle and a 9mm countrymade pistol with five ammunition besides a car.
The CBI took over the investigation on a request from the Manipur government, which was notified by the Centre. According to the FIR registered initially at Lamlai police station in Imphal East, the deceased was forcibly detained at Sawombung Gate by a mob numbering 100, including armed miscreants. She was forcibly abducted towards Keibi village in a car and subsequently her body was recovered.
The CBI, in a statement on Saturday, stated that the chargesheet was filed before the Special Judge CBI Court in Guwahati (designated as per the orders of the Supreme Court) and further investigation is continuing, including the identification of other accused in the case.
“The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian law, accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial,” the central investigation agency stated.
