SRNAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested a suspended cop and his wife for allegedly impersonating IPS and IAS officers and duping people on the pretext of providing jobs. The accused were identified as Manmohan Ganjoo of Baghat, Srinagar, and his wife Ayoush Koul Ganjoo.

In a series of tweets, Srinagar Police said that the couple had defrauded several people of lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs, transfers, and other favours. “Manmohan Ganjoo is a suspended police personnel. Laptops and mobiles containing many fake transfer and appointment orders including his own order of induction into IPS (were) seized. Fraudulently possessed cash, jewellery, and other incriminating articles (were) also recovered from his house,” read a tweet.
An FIR in this connection was registered at Sadder police station. So far, three victims have come forward to report the fraudster couple, police said, warning citizens to beware of such criminals and immediately inform cops in case they have suffered the same fate.

In March this year, J&K Police had arrested Kiranbhai Patel, a conman from Gujarat who had posed as a senior official of the Prime Minister’s Office for four months and taken the J&K administration for a ride, availing Z-plus security cover and other official benefits in Kashmir Valley, which he visited twice. Besides enjoying VVIP status, he had even visited several security-sensitive spots.
